Connected problems, one answer
We started with a simple question: what if the problems facing farming weren't separate, but connected?
Our story
-
2022
Kenya went through one of its worst droughts in decades. Feed prices rose, farms produced less and food security weakened, while tonnes of organic waste were still thrown away every day.
-
2024
Studying biology at the University of Nairobi, our founder, Abigail Ndekei, came across Black Soldier Fly: larvae that turn organic waste into animal feed and fertiliser. That year she founded Rethink Organic to help farmers cut costs, manage waste and build farms that stand up to a changing climate.

The gap
Farmers trying Black Soldier Fly found it hard to keep the colony at the temperature and humidity it needs, and problems showed only after production had already dropped. So we paired the biology with monitoring: Mkuu-lima, built to make sustainable farming easier to get right, not just easier to start.
"The real barrier wasn't the biology. It was knowing what was happening inside the colony before it was too late."
Listening to farmers
"I wished I could freeze that moment in time: seeing their interest, answering their questions, and listening to their suggestions."
